My First WIAW and Insanity Day 2

Woooooooow - am I really posting two days in a row? I'm impressed...I'm not even mad.
Okay, all - this isn't going to be an amazing post - I'll admit that right now. I have wanted to participate in the whole WIAW thing for a while now, and I always fail with taking pictures of my lunch. Well, guess what? I STILL fail at that. I have taken pictures of a couple breakfasts and one dinner - so I'll share those instead! Sound good? I thought you'd agree! On to the food!

Breakfast - sweet potato with almond butter and banana

Not going to lie, when I read about eating a sweet potato for breakfast, I was a little thrown off? What's that you say? A spud in the morning! Unheard of! Moving on...it was actually really good! And it kept me full for.ever.and.ever. So yes, try it if you're daring! =)

Vegan Broccoli Mac and Cheeze via Happy Herbivore meal plan
Oh my heck. This stuff was good - Lindsay from HH really does know how to put together some good recipes - my mom (who is not vegan) has enjoyed the tastes I've given her of all the meals I've made so far!

ohmygoodness - how original am I?! Oatmeal!

Okay, guys - yes, I know that everyone and their mom eats oatmeal (especially food bloggers), but bear with me. I'm new around these parts and this is one of the only things I remembered to photograph. It'll get better, I promise.

Well, that's all for the food, but I have another important thing to say. Insanity is AWESOME! I'd seriously recommend it for anyone looking for a new challenge. And I love that I can do it in my room and not have to go anywhere. I'll probably loosely follow the calendar provided and supplement with some hot yoga and some TKB every once in a while. Not willing to give those up!

Before - ready to kick Insanity's butt!
Can we please just notice that I'm not sweaty, I still have my makeup on from the day, and my hair is dry? Okay, did we notice? Alright, let's see that after photo (if you have an aversion to sweaty beasts, please do not continue...fair warning).

That fake smile was all I could muster

Soooo...about that. Let's be clear - I didn't kick Insanity's butt. It did, however, kick mine. At least I tried. Note the wet hair, and shiny (read: sweaty) face. I made it through the whole workout and felt great after. I'm excited to see results with this program. Seems hardcore enough!

Question: Anyone finished the Insanity program? I know I've read a few blogs in which the bloggers did it. How were your results? Did you enjoy the switching up of the different workouts on different days?

I hope I'll be doing another post tomorrow, everyone! Catch you on the flip side!

San Diego Girl's Weekend

Hi, everyone (which is actually only one person that I know of)! Happy Tuesday!

I'm really trying to get into posting more so I'm actually going to post something tonight and then hopefully something tomorrow as well! Here's hoping!

We'll just start off with my weekends lately. Two weekends ago, I had my mom's timeshare booked for 2 nights for boo and I, but alas, he waited until too late to schedule for the days off from work. I ended up sending a text out to a couple friends asking if they'd want to make a weekend out of it - Shan ended up saying yes! So that Friday, Shan and I set out on our San Diego adventure!

We arrived to the condo on Friday night around 7:30 and then we ordered out dinner at ZPizza - love that they have vegan options available! The Berkeley Vegan pizza was A.MAZ.ING.

Not gunna lie, I know that there should be a picture here. Unfortunately, I didn't take one. I will get better a this. Pinky promise! =)

The next morning, Shan and I woke up early and hit up Coronado. It was a beautiful day, if a little cold. We ate breakfast at Crown Bistro which was so, so adorable. Unfortunately, they were all out of their one real vegan option (oatmeal), so I ordered a bagel and a bowl of fruit. Just imagine the beautiful food picture. gah! I know, I know...if you want to be a blogger, you have to be permanently attached to  your camera. Check and check.

After breakfast, we walked to Hotel Del Coronado and proceeded to shop, lounge, and chit chat. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed some time in the sun.

That's me on the left there - Shan is on the right :)

After we were done walking around the hotel, we drove over to the Ferry Landing and enjoyed some lunch and more views. Gorgeous!

After all that sun, we were ready to go back to the condo and relax for a while! We ended with dinner at Babbo's Bar and Grille. We ate too much, talked a lot (seems to be a theme to the weekend) and went  home and crashed. Great day out and about!

On Sunday, Shan and I woke up and checked out. Again, another gorgeous day in San Diego and I was sad, yet ready to leave. I wanted to sleep in my own bed again and I missed the boo.

Well...I think that's all I have for you tonight - I'll try to come back tomorrow and do a WIAW post. It'll be my first if I can manage to post it! Very exciting!

Xo!

Ode to the Common Cold (Or Why I'm Home Midday on a weekday)

Hi everyone! You might be asking why the heck am I posting to my blog at 2 PM on a workday. And to that, I would answer, "I feel like crap, went to the doctor, and went home to rest for the day." Annnnddd the cat is really confused and will not stay out of my face.

Apparently, going to Vegas and getting only two hours of sleep a night isn't good for your body and immune system. Who knew?! All I know, is I went and I came home and two days later, I'm sick (and I almost never get sick!) So, here I am, 8 days later (8 days!) post doctor's appointment and meds, laying in bed, getting some R&R. Here's to feeling better (Please excuse my cheeeesy smile and thumbs-up. It's really all I could muster for today)!

In other news, I have finally managed to take a picture of some fooooood! I wasn't craving anything really lunch-y today, so I had some Make-Ahead Steel Cut Oatmeal à la Angela. I added in some unsweetened vanilla almond milk, along with a little bit of left-over canned pumpkin and threw it in the microwave. Gave it a little stir to make it nice and creamy-like and then sprinkled some cinnamon and maple syrup on top.

Oh my goodness, it was delish! Alright everyone, I'm off to do more relaxing. Hope you enjoy your days! Hopefully you're not sick like me, but if you are, let's commiserate =)

Surveying it up!

Okay, everyone...I thought a fun way to eaaaase into this would be to do one of those survey things you sometimes see around here on the blogs. I found a fun one on PB Fingers that I thought I'd do. Next up will probably be a more food-centered post if I can manage to remember to take pictures! Sooo...here we go:

Name three things sitting next to you right now:
1. A sleepy boyfriend, Boo (who I will tell you more about soon!)
2. A fan (it's always so darn warm up in here)
3. My laptop (pretty much attached to my lap)

Name two foods you can't live without:
1. Nut butters of all kinds!
2. Pasta!

Name two things you can't live without:
1. Cell phone
2. Food (I know, I know...it's not as fun cause it's functional, but still!)

Name two people you can't live without:
1. Family
2. Friends (including the boy) - yes, I know, I grouped them. But do you really expect anyone to just choose two people?!

Name one thing you did today:
1. Wrote a rough draft of a Sociology paper - what a way to spend my Saturday!

Name two things you've learned from the healthy living community:
1. The numbers aren't so important (and that throwing away the scale can be a good idea)
2. That you can put spinach in a smoothie and not taste it (I'm still amazed)

Hello, My Name is Cassie

Hi everyone in the blog world! I guess you could consider me new to this entire idea, but I have been lurking around for a while now. There are a couple different blogs that fueled my passion and inspired me to perhaps start a little bloggy blog up and see what could happen. So, that being said, here we go...

First and foremost, a little bit about me! My name is Cassie and I'm a ::ahem:: "recent" college graduate, working full time, and doing the things I can manage in order to make my way to grad school sometime soon. I received my bachelor's in Psychology and really have a passion for listening to, and helping people. My ultimate goal is to be able to do that and make a living while I'm at it...so graduate school for counseling psychology is (hopefully) in my future.

In the meantime, I work in Human Resources in lovely Orange County, CA and spend my free time running, reading (blogs, books, magazines), maxin' and relaxin' with my boy, and going gaga over my new baby nephew :-D

I'm sure there's more to know, but let's not rush things. I'm sure we'll get to know each other better soon! If anyone is reading this, please say hi! It's pretty quiet out here when you first get started, but we all start somewhere!
